Beastly la Différence

Though they are of the same species (Beast), Whimsy and Burlie could not be less alike.

Burlie is
Bold!

While Whimsy is
contemplative.

Burlie is
brash!

While Whimsy is
dreamy.

Burlie is
mighty!

While Whimsy is
gentle.

Burlie is
direct.

While Whimsy
meanders.

Burlie
ACTs!

While Whimsy
muses.

Yet they are Good Friends.

They have been friends for a long, long time. They met back on the Enchanted Emerald Isle -- and they reunited here in "Merrikka" when Burlie rescued Whimsy after Hurricane Irene...
...and brought her here to live with us.

They share many values...

...and many interests.

Both like exploring the beauties of our world. They both see a lot.

Burlie likes to look far and wide.

Whimsy likes to look close and intimately.

While they both like exploring...
...they each tend to do it at a very different pace.

Whimsy likes to STOP and smell the flowers.

Burlie wants to GO find more!

This can be challenging.

So...they don't always see eye to eye.

And then their different styles can cause:

Burlie wants to See! and Do! as much as possible, as fast as possible!

And sometimes, MORE than is possible.

(Whimsy has been known to rescue him, too.)

Sometimes Burlie wants to DO SOMETHING:

He wants to GO for the gold.
He is sure if Whimsy follows him...
She will love it, too.

Sometimes Whimsy goes with Burlie. But sometimes she wants to STAY.
She is sure Burlie will want to, too.

Sometimes...

When Burlie can't persuade Whimsy to GO...
And Whimsy can't persuade Burlie to STAY...

Then Burlie gets frustrated.

And Whimsy feels pressured and misunderstood.

Whimsy is sad when they aren't in harmony.

And Burlie is sad when Whimsy is sad.

While they both enjoy the pleasures of a Magical Garden...

Burlie wants to climb up high, to See! and Do!...and Whimsy wants to stay on the earth where the flowers are.

So, sometimes...they part ways.

They each do what feels right to them.

Burlie scales the heights...
 Whimsy enjoys the flowers...

 And it does feel right...

Even though they miss each other.

(Sometimes...they are not as far apart as they think.)

Their friends watch them, with concern and love.

They love and appreciate both their dear friends, for exactly who they are.
No need to take sides.

They commune with Whimsy and the flowers.

They Adventure with Burlie...

...and join his lookout for What's Next.

It is hard for their friends, too, to see Burlie and Whimsy struggle.

But there is Wisdom. And Trust. And Love. They know and love and trust...
Burlie's Burlie-ness
and
Whimsy's Whimsy-cality.

And they know Burlie and Whimsy love each other, too...and that all will be as it should.
And in the meantime, their job is to be there with love.

Beastly Math

When your dear friends
are at sixes and sevens,
their arithmetic has gone awry.
Beastly Math
has the solution
every true friend should apply.

Beast friends add
(and don't subtract)
all the love
(and don't divide).
And Beasts then find
in this equation
all the love
will multiply.

Mow? NO!

Of all the things we human "Giants" do that puzzle the Beasts, one of the most baffling is...
Mowing the lawn.

Or, as they call it, "murdering the grass."

And they want us to STOP!

   Right now!

Apart from the appalling slaughter of innocent greenery, the Beasts and Beings point out that there are much better things we can do with our time.

Such as:
Read a good book.

Share a stout with a friend.

Go for a hike.

Use plants for medicine, magic, and food.

Enjoy the flowers...

...and beFriend them.

Comfort the ones whose friends have been mowed down.

So...

Save your lawn...

Savor your lawn!

And have a Beastly Day!

Have a Beastly Earth Day!

The Beasts wish us all...
...a very merry Earth Day!

Whimsy reminds us...

"Treat the Earth Gently!"

Burlie reminds us...

"Stop messing it up!"

In their different ways, they both mean the same thing... Have a Beastly Earth Day!

Have you hugged your Earth Beast today?

How to Build a Beast

Once upon a time (last week)...

In a frozen wilderness
 of dazzling beauty
and icy peril...

...there lived some Beasts.

Burlie and Friend hailed from an Enchanted Emerald Isle and were not familiar with snow. They were full of wonder.

Then Burlie had an Idea.

"This Magic White Stuff? I bet it's the same
Magic White Stuff
The Goddess used to make US!"
Burlie went on: "WE could make a Beast!"

Friend was delighted. They set to work.

Burlie got Impatient. At this rate, it would take
f  o  r  e  v  e  r
to build the Beast.

So Burlie took matters into his own fists.

And soon they had...
The Beast

But this Beast was rather...blank. Then Burlie remembered
that The Goddess created faces using various
magic wands
Wands that carved, and wands that colored (and tickled).
...So Friend found a stick and sunk his teeth into the task.

"Hmm...Still not very lively, is he?"

Burlie thought he remembered The Goddess saying something...
...about the eyes being windows, or something.

Since he didn't have any windows handy, Burlie gave
the new Beast some seedpods.

Friend thought what the Beast needed was a SMILE.

See?

"Nah," said Burlie.
"TUSKS!"

But the new Beast still seemed...oddly still.

Burlie looked at Friend. Friend looked at Burlie.

Then Friend pointed something out:

And Burlie agreed:

Of course! ARMS!

Yet the new Beast wouldn't respond...
...no matter how loud Burlie SHOUTED

So Friend made the Beast ears so he could hear,
while Burlie tried arm-wrestling him to get him to talk.
 Burlie won.

But the Beast still didn't speak, or move, or...anything.

"What are we missing?" Burlie raged.

"Hmm...Whaddya bet The Goddess has some secrets, like
Extra Secret Magic?"
"Yeah. That makes sense. Must take a LOT of Magic
to make a Real Live Beast!"

They concluded that The Goddess sure was smart...and that they might as well just go exploring --  then go home to the human "Giants," who were making hot chocolate.

                                                 "C'mon..."

They left behind the "Beast."

(Who didn't seem to mind.)

They might not have been able to make a Beast...
...but it was still a beautiful day.

And they had made the world a better, Beastlier place...
...just by being in it.

Defensiveness...

"Defensiveness..."

"...is vulnerability..."

"...with FANGS."
